February Chapter Meeting – Volunteering at the Disney Wildlife Preserve / The Nature Conservancy

  • February Chapter Meeting - Volunteering Activity
     February 16, 2018
     9:00 am - 12:30 pm

The Central Florida Chapter’s February Meeting will be volunteering at the Disney Wildlife Preserve/The Nature Conservancy on Feb 16, 9 AM – 12:30 PM.  The project will be to prepare the Endangered Red Cockaded Woodpecker nest cluster for the upcoming fire season which involves raking around the base of the nesting trees to remove flammable fuel and protect the tree.  This work is semi-strenuous and involves raking away mowed palmetto, grass and debris.  It’s a great project that is super helpful to the Preserve plus we will get to enjoy a buggy ride thru the Preserve to get to the trees!

Notes:

  • The Preserve requires closed toe shoes and pants and recommends a long sleeve shirt, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, reusable water bottle, and a snack.
  • Gloves, drinking water and tools will be provided by the Preserve.
  • Lunch will be provided by Central Florida Chapter ASSE.
  • Max 20 participants – mandatory RSVP by February 1st.
